THE TEAM APPROACH
TO PLANNING |
Peak performance requires both vision and planning. Using
proven techniques developed and applied in a vast range of
situations, Don Gertsman has facilitated participative
planning processes by tailoring programs to fit the unique
requirements of each client organization.
Usually the process begins with a Planning Session
conducted in an informal, off-site setting. Participants
are selected based on their responsibilities within the
organization or project. There is no limit on the size of
the group, however, experience shows that teams of between
six and twelve people are the most productive.
Don employs his broad-based experience to
help teams resolve difficult issues by personally leading
every program. With his impartial leadership, the
session's participants are freed from usual organizational
constraints, allowing creative energies to be exercised
that may previously have gone unused.
Because plan implementation often calls for
the allocation of considerable resources, the
participation of senior management is essential. By the
completion of a planning meeting, the team will have
effectively developed:
-
A plan
with clear objectives
-
The
steps necessary to implement the plan
-
The
skills required to create future plans as needed
-
A
management system which, properly applied, virtually
assures the achievement of the organization's goals
The management team and
the organization benefits from the team planning experience
in several meaningful ways. First, the plan itself can
become a self-fulfilling prophecy with a high probability
of achieving the desired results. Second, communication
and teamwork are significantly enhanced. Third, individual
participants gain skills that allow them to be better
managers and to utilize their time and resources more
effectively. Last, individuals and teams become empowered
to act for the benefit of the entire organization. |
